Abstract

This internship report is within the scope of Medical-Surgical Nursing Master's Degree, in Critically Ill Person area. This document has the purpose to describe, analyze and demonstrate the process and development of common and specific skills of the Specialist Nurse by resorting to the reflective methodology, in order to provide the basis for awarding the title of Master and Specialist Nurse. The literature review was carried out using the Scoping Review methodology proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute, entitled “Competencies Profile of the Intra-hospital Emergency Team Nurse’s: A Scoping Review”. It aimed to map the extent, variety and nature of the literature on the competencies of the Intra-hospital Nurse Emergency Team, according to the competences of a Master in Nursing, set out in article 15 of the Regime Jurídico dos Graus e Diplomas do Ensino Superior (Decreto-Lei n.º 65/2018, 2018). The Scoping Review aimed to provide a theoretical basis for the selection, training, and development of nurses' competencies towards quality cares in this specific context and, thus, for the area of Critical Nursing Care. The practical component of the Master's consisted of an internship in an Intermediate Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Service, all of which were multi-purpose. For each internship area, objectives and activities were set to promote learning and competencies development for specialized nursing. The Regulamento das Competências Comuns do Enfermeiro Especialista and the Regulamento de Competências Específicas do Enfermeiro Especialista em Enfermagem Médico-Cirúrgica of the Ordem dos Enfermeiros were the basis of the developing competencies in Critical Nursing Care process analysis. The theoretical framework to the entire process was Patricia Benner's theory, From Novice to Expert. By the end of this course, it is possible to state that the objectives and competencies set out above were achieved and I am committed to continuous professional development.
