This internship report comes within the scope of the Master's Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing for the person in a critical situation at the Institute of Health Sciences of the Catholic University of Portugal. It is an assessment instrument that aims to reflect the learning path in the Polyvalent Intensive Care Unit (UCIP) of a central hospital in Lisbon, in order to obtain a master's degree. Based on bibliographic research and literature review, as well as on the mobilization of knowledge acquired throughout my personal, academic and professional path, it was possible to develop skills in approaching the person in a critical situation, specifically in the care of the victim of spinal cord injury, in the care of the patient under ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), in the transport, approach and safety of the critically ill patient and finally in the role of the team leader. A scoping review was carried out on comforting care for the thirsty person, which allowed for a deeper understanding of this area. Through a descriptive and reflective methodology, there will be a description and reflection on the process of learning and acquisition of competences, the contextualization of clinical practice, the process of acquiring competences in the area of specialization and a global analysis of the learning path and main implications for professional practice and personal and academic growth as a future specialist nurse. This learning path had implications for professional practice, such as the ability to reflect and improve my critical view, in the management of care and service, always taking into account a comforting holistic approach to the patient, based on current and quality evidence, also contributing to research and development. of the profession. With adversities and difficulties that arose along the trajectory and the constraints experienced in times of a pandemic, it was a path that required a lot of dedication and commitment, which strengthened the determination in my daily practice to maintain the promotion of quality, safety and constant comfort of care. evidence-based within the scope of master's nursing competencies.
