Abstract

Knowledge is changeable and infinite and allows us to guide behaviors, thoughts and relationships and respond to questions that arise throughout our lives and our professional path. This report was carried out to describe the journey taken during the internship in the emergency service and intensive care unit, and reflects the activities and reflections carried out that allowed the achievement of learning, skills and capabilities aimed at acquiring specialized skills for the approach to the person in critical situation and their family. Every day, nurses are faced with situations that challenge knowledge and skills, causing professionals to suffer from stress. Stress influences nurses' well-being and, consequently, their decision-making and interventions. Understanding the causes, knowing how to identify the consequences and knowing stress management strategies is essential to promoting the well-being of professionals and, consequently, excellent professional practice. This led to the carrying out of a scoping review with the objective of “Mapping, in scientific evidence, stress management strategies used by nurses in the care of critically ill patients and their families”. Highlighting that the stress management process is a complex, dynamic and cyclical process that involves several moments (pre, during and post stressful event) and a variability of strategies, whether focused on the problem, emotions or meaning, it was possible for throughout both internship contexts, share the knowledge and results of the scoping review in order to enable the team to deal with stress-inducing situations that arise during the provision of care to people in critical situations and their family.
