Abstract

The acquisition of competences as specialized nurse of medical-surgical nursing is established on the development of theoretical knowledge based on scientific evidence, mobilized and transferred into the practice in a reflexive and critical way, which allows the progressive acquisition of aptitudes and the adjustment of behaviours, thus building a new professional identity. Taking care of the ill person in a critical condition and her family demands from the nursing professionals the development of scientific, technical, behavioural and relational specific competences, considering the situations of great complexity they are confronted with daily. From the specialized nurse is expected a discerning capacity of evaluation and understanding of the individual and global needs of the ill person. This way, transferring into his professional performance all the knowledge and competences which are recognized to him, he establishes a relation of care, securing the dignity and individuality of the person who is being taken care during the process of transition health/ illness, and his intervention must be materialized in a particular and reflected care, within the logic of the standards of quality of the nursing care. The objective of this report is to describe in a reflexive and critical way the competences of a specialized nurse developed in the three modules of training: Control of Hospital Infection, Emergency Service and Intensive Care Unit/ Intermediate. In all of them, I`ve tried to maximize my learning process, defining objectives which aimed at the development of competences as specialized nurse in the area of specialization of medical-surgical, of which are enhanced the scientific, technical, ethical and relational competences when attending the ill person in a critical condition and her family/ significant companion. The importance of taking care of the ill person, but also her family, has been pointed out in this work, because the family is also in a situation of great vulnerability and experiencing moments of high levels of stress, which justifies its inclusion in the process of care. The modules of training were developed in the same hospital unit, which facilitated the consolidation of competences to be developed, allowing a progressive specialized professional autonomy which results in a new professional identity as Specialized Nurse in Medical- Surgical Nursing
