Abstract

This report was submitted as part of the final placement of the 13th Master’s Degree in Nursing with Specialization in Nursing for people in critical situations. This course was undertaken at the Institute of Health Sciences – Porto, part of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, academic year 2020/21. Through a reflective analysis about the professional and academic path, the process of refining knowledge and building common and specific skills of the Specialist Nurse in the mentioned area is illustrated, culminating with the demonstrative report of the skills acquired within the Master's degree in Nursing. Its construction was based on the objectives defined for the Curricular Unit, in the internship project and in the works carried out from 07/09/20 to 19/12/20, in the internship in the context of pre-hospital emergency care and in A&E, narrating in the light of current scientific evidence and reflection on action, the process of building specialized skills. This document covers the path to the acquisition of skills in three main chapters. In chapter 2, the competences acquired in the professional path are approached as a learning process prior to the course of this Curricular Unit and whose basis made it possible to accredit the internship in the Intensive Care Unit. Chapter 3 proceeds with the contextualization of clinical practice sites, with their characterization, and with more in-depth analysis and critical reflection on the dynamics and management of material and human resources, with a view to achieving some objectives. initially outlined for the internship and skills development in the scope of Specialized Nursing. In chapter 4 there is a description, analysis, reasoning and reflection on the process that made it possible to achieve the other objectives set, the implementation of activities and the development of competences, both in the common areas of competence of the Specialist Nurse and in the domains of specific competences within the scope of the specialized nursing. As well as great learning and the work carried out within the scope of interventions for the improvement of care, namely, two works dealing with the themes “Nurses and the preservation of traces in crime victims in the context of pre-hospital emergency” and “Clinical communication structured in nursing practice” addressed to the A&E. The placement has enabled me to grow as a Specialist Nurse. It has increased my capacity for reflection and improved my practice by incorporating current evidence and thinking. As learning continues throughout my career as a Specialist Nurse, I will continue to guide my practice with the latest evidence and guidelines to improve the quality of nursing care.
