Abstract

Specialized nursing care to people in a critical situation requires the specialist nurse to acquire general and specific skills, based on the analysis and critical reflection on clinical practices based on scientific and technical knowledge, skills and attitudes, emphasizing respect for human life and dignity, based on professional deontology. This report, developed within the scope of the Masters Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing aims obtaining the master's degree, evidencing how the stage, developed in three specific contexts, Emergency Service, Intensive / Intermediate Care Unit and Operating room, contributed to the development of specialized competences, because circumstantiality allows access to new, unexpected and complex situations that promote professional and personal development. During three internship modules, I defined goals that would allow me to develop the skills of a specialist nurse in the field of medical-surgical nursing specialization, namely scientific, technical, ethical and relational skills. This report aims to demonstrate learning, developed activities and the fundamentals of my actuation in a critic and reflexive way, translating the credibility of my care and evidencing a humanistic vision, understanding that nursing job has caring as it’s core based on a basic moral concept: “caring for the people”. It is expected that the specialist nurse acts as a facilitator of the health/disease transition process, through the promotion of a caring relationship with the people in critical situation and their families, understanding the implications of evidence based practice addressing the inherent needs to its specialization area. Thus, two review articles on the topic “Risk factors that contribute to the development of pressure ulcers and ophthalmological care to the critically ill person in Intensive Care Units” were produced, thus contributing to the quality improvement of nursing care and services, which translates to the subsequent acquisition of health gains.
