The Master in Nursing, of professional nature, leads to the development of nurses towards the quality of care, with post-graduate training in the area of Medical Surgical Nursing, to develop skills for nursing care to the person in critical condition. It was in this context of formation that the report appeared. It contains a critical and reflective description of stage modules, which were performed in the Intermediate Care Unit of Cardiology (ICUC) and Polyvalent Intensive Care Unit (PICU), in the Hospital of Braga. The preparation of this document has the following targets, (i) give visibility to the ability to report critical activities, (ii) describe the most relevant activities, (iii) reflect about practice, taking into account the ethical, legal and social implications, (iv) support of reflective practice, (v) encourage independent and reflective learning (vi)- demonstrate the ability of synthesis and organization, (vii) to document my progress. The methodology used for producing this report was descriptive based on critical reflection of activities and skills developed in two stages, grounded on literature research. The structure of this document is intended to facilitate consultation, and divide it into several chapters from the introduction to the framework of the training fields and its relevance, until the description of the activities that allowed the acquisition of skills in the Specialization in Medical Surgical Nursing, ending with the conclusion and its bibliography. Concluding this route, I think that it has contributed to my learning in the sense that I developed the capacity of reflection about the “to be” knowledge, the “to know” knowledge and the “how to be” knowledge, providing the development of critical thinking, promoting bibliographical research based on scientific evidence. This document proved to be a surplus in order to compile and synthesize in a scientific approach the entire route developed, allowing the advance in scientific expertise, methodological, professional, relational, social and ethical issues, and promoting autonomy, creativity, critical thinking and decision making. I conclude that the specialized training in Medical Surgical Nursing allows the development of skills to ensure the provision of skilled nursing care to the person in critical condition including (i) mobilizing knowledge and skills by practicing holistic nursing care designed to address the situations of critical illness or organ failure, (ii) organizing, managing and designing plans to respond in catastrophe situations or multivictims emergencies, and (iii) considering the risk of infection face to the complexity of the situations, and to resort to invasive measures of diagnostic and therapeutic, adopting actions for its prevention and control.
