Abstract

For a good coexistence among people, it is necessary to have mutual respect. And the Catholic Church has always defended the respect of human dignity, choosing peace and justice. Its encyclicals and exhortations on social issues and human dignity make up a set of documents on the Social Doctrine of the Church. In the line of Christianity, respect for the human person has its foundations in creation, as the image and likeness of God. Therefore, in the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation "Dear Amazonia" by Pope Francis, it is easy to see that the Supreme Pontiff dreams of a future with a Church that fights for human freedom, for the rights of the voiceless; a Church that recognizes cultural richness. This was also the challenge that D. Manuel Vieira Pinto faced in the Church of Mozambique, the fight for the respect of human dignity. Considering that respect for man and his rights is the foundation of freedom, justice and social peace for a people. And the disrespect of these rights generates violence, persecutions and hatred among people.
