Abstract
Corporate Social Responsibility has been the subject of much debate in civilsociety, as well as in the legal field. We find that stakeholders are increasingly attentive to this issue, forcing companies to adapt to a reality in which the consumer and stakeholders are concerned with the social, economic and environmental impact of business decisions. This dissertation seeks to demonstrate the importance of a corporate response associated with Social
Responsibility, as well as, the legal response to these concerns, through the movements of Corporate Social Responsibility, ESG and the branch of Coporate Governance Law. As a starting point, we focus on the two main concepts of this dissertation, Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Governance, from a historical perspective of their formation, as well as their demonstration in the daily life of companies. Subsequently, we empirically demonstrate how the two concepts converge and the importance of ESG indices, namely in the
Covid-19 Pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine Conflict and the emerging cryptoactive economy. This dissertation ends with the analysis of the British and Portuguese legal systems and the role of law in this issue.
