This Internship Report is part of the Curricular Unit - Final Internship and Report, inserted in the Curriculum Plan of the 14th Master's Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for the Person in Critical Situation, at the Institute of Health Sciences – Porto of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in the academic year of 2021/2022. The realization of this document aims to reflect the path taken in the Internship, both in the development of academic skills and in the professional and personal growth in this unusual time that we are experiencing. The route took place in the Emergency Department and in the Extra-hospital Emergency - SIV from September 6th to December 18th, 2021. This document structurally consists of three main points: the 1st in which the characterization of the contexts was carried out, in a descriptive but also critical-reflexive aspect, a brief summary of the path taken in the 1st year internship in the context of a Multipurpose Intensive Care Unit , and a critical-reflexive analysis of the objectives achieved, the activities carried out and the skills acquired during this final stage in the context of ED and Extra-hospital Emergency - SIV; in the 2nd point, there is a bibliographic research that aimed to understand the advantages/disadvantages of the use of the cervical collar in the polytraumatized person in the context of Extra-hospital Emergency; and in the 3rd point, there is a bibliographic research on the collection of forensic traces resulting from victims of aggression/crime or death, due to an occurrence that arose in the context of an internship at the ER, which gave rise to a work on the aforementioned topic. During the completion of both stages, skills were developed to provide and manage care for the person in a critical situation and in the anticipation of instability and risk of organic failure; administration of complex therapeutic protocols; differentiated management of pain and well-being of the person in a critical situation and/or organic failure, optimizing the responses; assistance of the person, family/caregiver in the emotional disturbances resulting from the critical health/illness situation and/or organic failure; management of interpersonal communication that underpins the therapeutic relationship with the person, family/caregiver in the face of the highly complex situation of their health status; development of critical reflection skills. Thus, in this path towards obtaining a Master's degree in Nursing, it was intended to describe the set of common and specific competences, developed by the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Specialization for the Person in Critical Situation, always having in mind the care person in a holistic way throughout their life cycle. It is concluded, therefore, that all this journey carried out in order to achieve the degree of Master in Nursing and Specialty in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the field of Person in Critical Situation, had implications at a professional level, since it contributed to the development of critical-reflective thinking throughout the management and process of caring for the person in a critical situation, based on the provision of care in a holistic way and based on the best scientific evidence available.
