A training course began in September 2015, the Master in Nursing in the area of Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, at the Institute of Health Sciences of Lisbon, of the Portuguese Catholic University. This report intends to demonstrate everything I have acquired in this journey, both the ability to identify problems and develop solutions, and to reflect on the actions carried out and their ethical and social implications, and also to adequately communicate the conclusions I have drawn. This document is structured in six parts, the first with regard to the introduction. Following is the Systematic Review of Literature developed during the stage of the optional module and that constitutes Chapter I. Chapter II is dedicated to the fundamentals of the choice of internships, with a brief contextualization of them, as well as the description, critical reflection of the activities and competences developed in each context. The contributions of my clinical practice for the improvement of the quality of the care provided to the critical user / significant people were also evidenced. Chapter III presents an overall evaluation of the internships, and Chapter IV concerns the conclusion, which will highlight the main competences developed and the contributions of this training process. Finally, the bibliographic references are presented. The clinical practice that I have developed in the various fields of internship has been unfolded in a climate conducive to comprehensive learning and human and professional growth that I hope to convey in every word that make up this report. The central theme that defined my course was the prevention and control of infections, which led me to choose the title of this document, and prevention is the first step towards providing care of excellence. I placed on this path all my will and ambition to want to know, know to be, to know how to be and to know how to do more and better, both in the field of direct care, and in terms of training and management.
