This report aims to highlight the learning and experiences lived in the context of the Master's Degree in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area: Nursing in Critical Care, from Instituto de Ciências da Saúde - Lisboa, of Universidade Católica Portuguesa. This document also aims to mobilize the subsidiary professional experience to the development of specialist skills, integrating a critical reflective analysis focused on the common and specific competencies of Specialist and Master Nurses, acquired and developed throughout this training course. Transversally to the acquisition of these competencies, I identified areas for improvement in the internship contexts. Thus, in the emergency service I focused on caring for the person in the resuscitation room, where the complexity of situations is evident and the consequent management of emotions, of the person and his/her family, is very complex. In this context, I highlight the completion of a written reflection on the approach to the patient with polytrauma where I justify the evidence-based nursing interventions and expose the management of emotions and the transmission of bad news to the family. Still in the context of emergency care, but transversal to the whole training process, I started the elaboration of the scoping review protocol. During the research process, I conducted a literature review on the topic of debriefing as a strategy to improve quality and safety in the care of the person and his/her family. With the completion of the scoping review, it was possible to map the effects of debriefing on the multidisciplinary team and the critically ill person. Through the dissemination of this review, it is intended that nurses working in critical care services develop skills that promote better care. In the Intensive Care Unit, I was part of the in-hospital medical emergency team and conducted a training session on debriefing where I explained the definition of the concept, identified several registration documents, listed the benefits of its application, and reflected as a team on the main barriers to debriefing.
