The progressive loss of cognitive and motor skills associated with people suffering from dementia often leads to institutionalization (Schulz et al. 2004). A multidisciplinary team of professionals involved in the care comes across with daily difficulties, to which the psychologist has the skills to respond (Neri, 2004). This qualitative study aims to access the perspective of the members of the multidisciplinary care team about the kind of work and support expected from psychologists that provide care to people suffering from dementia. The sample consisted of 13 professionals that perform different functions in five nursing houses. The process of data collection included interviews, with a script built for this purpose. The main results suggest that the professional’s perspective about the psychologist's role in assessment, intervention and team guidance, are the same that they expected from him. Additionally, the professionals recognized the importance of the psychologist’s role in providing care in dementia.
