In an increasingly aging society, combined with an increase in life expectancy, functional capacity constraints are a reality increasingly present. Thus, this study examined the association between functional dependence and geriatric depression in the elderly set through a drawing correlational and exploratory. A sample of 72 elderly users of Continuous Care Unit (UCCI) Mercy Hospital of Greenville. The main results showed that there is a statistically significant inverse correlation between functional ability and depression (r = - .864, p <0.01). The results also showed that the dependence in BADL's imply higher levels of depression compared to the dependence on the AIVD's. It was further observed that there are no gender difference al level of geriatric depression and social support implies low positive levels of depression.
