The design of a conceptual model for monitoring diabetes using friendly mobile health technology with high penetration rates among portuguese population represents one additional step to move forward to the control of a silent disease that affects a growing number of people around the world and mainly in the developed/developing countries. Although diabetes is a well-known disease since long ago it saw, mostly in the second half of the last century, appears in the market new therapeutic methods more and more sophisticated and efficient, where anti-diabetics medicines and insulins had a major role, which brought a significant growth to the average life expectancy of this patients as well as an important life quality improvement. However, the generalization of prejudicial life habits that promotes the exponential and quick worldwide growth of this disease has contributed to a new awareness of it as it is usually associated with several health conditions with high impact in the social and economic tissue of the modern societies. Taking this in account and in order to counter this trend it is necessary to bring more consciousness and responsibility to people to prevent and control the disease but also to use, in a more efficient way, the limited human, technological and financial resources available. This work intend, in this way, to promote the adoption of a new tool that could bring health and economic benefits of high value among the portuguese population.
