This report comes within the scope of the Master's Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for the Person in Critical Situation, and intends to report the academic path carried out in the two internship contexts of the curricular unit “Final Internship and Report” , highlighting the process of acquiring the skills defined by the Order of Nurses for the Specialist Nurse, taking into account the four domains of the Common Competences of the Specialist Nurse and the Specific Competences of the Specialist Nurse in Nursing for the Person in Critical Situation. The internship contexts consisted of an Emergency Service and an Intensive Care Unit, in which it was possible to reflect and acquire knowledge and practice in Medical-Surgical Nursing for people in critical situations. Regarding the common skills of the Specialist Nurse, in the field of professional, ethical and legal practice, I have developed decision-making strategies taking into account the principles, values and deontological norms. In the field of quality, strategies were created in order to consolidate and promote safety and quality in the provision of care. In the management of nursing care, I reflected on the importance of the nurse manager and the management of health care in view of the existing resources. In the domain of the development of professional learning, I tried to reflect on the need for the Specialist Nurse to acquire the ability to apply and demonstrate specific knowledge on a continuous basis and based on scientific foundations. Throughout this curricular unit, an integrative literature review was carried out on nursing interventions in the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia, based on standard 021/2015 of the General Health Directorate regarding the Bundles of Interventions for the Prevention of Ventilator-associated Pneumonia Intubation.
