The present dissertation is entitled «Professional Development of Teachers: Supervision and Evaluation». From this theme we intend to study how the practices of Pedagogical Supervision and Evaluation of Teaching Performance contribute to the Professional Development of Teachers. Recent studies reveal that 'the formation of a professional can not be confused with the mere frequency of courses' (Machado et al., 2014, p.149, 154, 155). It is fundamental to the education professional that his or her education is also linked to the concrete aspects of school life and the work that the teacher tends to develop (ibid.). The Pedagogical Supervision and Teaching Performance Evaluation practices are the most indicated strategies in the last decades, to allow greater involvement of the teachers in the life of the school. Because Pedagogical Supervision is not limited to simply the initial training phase of the teacher's career, «it is a continuous and dynamic process that takes into account the professional development of the teacher (Alarcão & Tavares, 2013) ». And the Performance Assessment, when elaborated in a systematic and scientific way, helps to identify the deficient causes; makes it possible to establish a development perspective with the active participation of the teacher himself; provides indicators, criteria and objectives so that each participant in the process seeks maximum performance (Friozi, 2009). For the materialization of this study, we are based on procedures of the two models of reference research: the qualitative method and the quantitative method. And as an instrument of data collection: the questionnaire, the semi-structured interview and the documentary analysis. Content analysis followed, categorizing interview data. This makes it possible to arrive at the first considerations that the members of the School Direction and the Teachers recognize and are aware of the importance and necessity of the Pedagogical Supervision and Evaluation of the Teaching Performance to which they are submitted, which facilitates the implementation of new methods and practices that promote its development.
