This dissertation investigates the use of machine translation, in the reservations department, within the hospitality industry. With the increasing globalization and the constant digital innovations in hospitality, the machine translation emerged as a support tool to ensure the accessibility and efficiency in costumer communication. The study analyzes the hypothesis of frequent use of machine translation in the reservations department and evaluates how it is applied in its processing. It also looks at the challenges encountered, the level of confidence professionals have in using it and the revision needs that arise. Finally, it also analyzes the importance of linguistic knowledge in this context, as well as the relationship between the translation quality and interaction with guests. The research includes quantitative and qualitative data, collected through surveys and interviews with professionals in the sector, analyzing the advantages, limitations and future possibilities for machine translation in the hospitality industry. Although machine translation has shown great progress and offers valuable support in the reservations department, its independent use isn’t recommended. This technology proves most effective when combined with human intervention, guaranteeing the continuous level of excellence in the hospitality industry.
