Abstract
The prevalence and magnitude of progressive advanced chronic diseases prompt the emergence of specialized care to meet the needs of these patients. Thus, Palliative Care (PC) emerges, aiming to alleviate all dimensions of suffering and improve quality of life. Dignity has gained special attention, since its perceived loss is associated with high levels of suffering and loss of meaning in life. In this sense, psycho-existential interventions have shown effectiveness in increasing the sense of meaning and dignity. Considering the relevance of this topic, the current study aims to explore the concept of dignity from the perspective of patients in PC and to reflect on its importance for their well-being and quality of life. To achieve this, through a secondary analysis of data previously collected in studies that aimed to implement and evaluate the impact of Meaning in Life Therapy (MLT), the data of 19 patients followed in PC was analyzed through a thematic analysis and using the Excel program. This study contributes to the deepening and understanding of the dignity perceived by patients in PC, highlighting the relevance of health professionals to promote and/or maintain dignity.| Date of Award | 10 Jul 2025 |
