Abstract

It is the purpose of this work to analyze some of the variables of socialization process, occurring amongst the Fo Guang Shan temple-going chinese community in Lisbon (focusing on the study of this temple’s Chinese community). This way, we find that both the concept of socialization and the concept of community are connected. This investigation focuses on several models of ethnographical and anthropological research and its field of study is socialization, enabling the study of various aspects of socialization and the models of social and cultural reproduction of this chinese community. The data gathered through several interviews to members of the community is also analyzed. This study was conducted by means of several periods of observation and several interviews to members of the community and its main purpose is to understand the process of socialization in the specific context of the updated social practices of the temple, integrated by the social actors themselves, and also to understand the relationship between Buddhism as a way of life and the insertion of the community by means of intergenerational interactions, in its canvas of social and cultural representations.
