Abstract

This Dissertation was carried out under the guidance of Professor Ângela Leite and was developed in the second year of the Master's in Clinical and Health Psychology, Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, Catholic University of Portugal Regional Center of Braga. The present Dissertation aimed to evaluate whether the induction of feelings of forgiveness and gratitude through the use of Virtual Reality reduces the bitterness in the participants. For this, the participants were evaluated in two moments, where it would be evaluated whether, in fact, with the use of Virtual Reality there was, or not, an increase in gratitude and forgiveness and a decrease in bitterness compared to the first moment.Parametric tests such as Student's t test, correlation tests and non-parametric Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were used to assess the effectiveness of the investigation. The results obtained corroborate the hypotheses made, and through the use of Virtual Reality there was a decrease in bitterness and an increase in feelings of forgiveness and gratitude in the participants. In turn, Virtual Reality proves to be a promising psychological intervention tool due to its ease of application, low cost and short time to reach therapeutic goals.
