This report describes the process and outcome of the master’s in nursing with Specialization in Community Nursing, in the area of Community Health and Public Health Nursing, developed at the Portuguese Catholic University, Institute of Health Sciences. Based on the development of specialized skills and a Master's in Nursing, the student's path, whether in the theoretical component of the Master's degree, or in the Community Health: Surveillance and Clinical Decision and in the Final Internship, culminating with the presentation of this document, was based on increasing theoretical-practical knowledge of the operating room nursing team and post-surgical inpatient service nurses at the Guinea-Bissau hospital in order to improve the quality of nursing care provided to patients and their families in the operating room and in the inpatient service post-surgical treatment at the Guinea-Bissau hospital in order to reduce the level of infections in the perioperative period and in the community context. This initiative also allowed us to know some problems that in fact interfere a lot about the quality of nursing care provided by them to patients and their families. Regarding the results obtained from the two knowledge assessments carried out, in the first assessment before training, the trainees obtained a final average of 43.5%, which indicates knowledge not demonstrated by the trainees, thus justifying our intervention regarding this need. In the second evaluation after the training, the trainees obtained a final average of 85.5%, which indicates the knowledge demonstrated by the trainees, that is, they achieved great gains in knowledge with the training provided. A significant collective gain of 42% on the part of the trainees was noticed, thus comparing the two final averages. The development of this project allowed us to develop some training activities with the aim of training the Nursing team at the Hospital in Guinea-Bissau, also developing activity plans for training groups and communities, with a view to promoting health education for the local community, it also allowed us to develop the competences foreseen for the academic degree of master’s in nursing.
