Religion, as an individual and social phenomenon, is an intrinsic and one of the mostimportant dimensions of the human being, in which all religious experience compromisesand encompasses this same human being: cognitive, affective, behavioral dimensions andtheir social context. When approaching religion as a set of beliefs that influence theculture and ways of being in the life of each person who believes in them, it is perceived, nowadays, that the links between religion and mental health have been studied in moredepth, being that, among psychiatric illnesses, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)is, without a doubt, one of those that has been getting more attention. With that said, thisstudy aimed to understand how the dynamics of the Centrality of Religion and ObsessiveCompulsive Disorder (OCD) influence each other in a representative sample of thePortuguese population, using a quantitative, correlative, transversal methodology for thispurpose and validating for the Portuguese context, two religious scales. The results revealgood models of adjustment to the sample for all instruments and also reveal a significantrelationship between obsession-compulsion and religiosity.
