The present study aims to contribute to a deepening of gender issues in what dyadic couple interaction is concerned. Through a qualitative methodology, 16 participants (8 couples) were used, collected through the Couple's Interaction Task - CIT (Collins, Hennighausen, Madsen & Roisman, 1998), in an investigation carried out by Lima in 2009. The present work has as its main objective to identify and understand, in the discursive level and bearing in mind the gender function, similarities/differences in dyadic couple interaction. Specifically, it focuses on those which are considered the four basic elements for establishing intimacy (Care Seeking, Care Giving, Autonomy and Negotiation Ability). The findings indicated a greater manifestation by the female element for the Care Seeking, Care Giving and Autonomy. The Negotiation Ability is mainly expressed by the male element. Additionally, the verified results indicate suitability in the request for care and care delivery, in the expression of individuality and in the conflict solving and decision making process. In the end, some limitations of this study are presented, as well as some suggestions for future research.
