Abstract

This paper describes briefly the work done during the four months of internship at Neves de Almeida HR Consulting, and presents a detailed description of the research work developed. The investigation was intended to get to know both the perceived and desired power distance degrees among the company's employees and the impact of these perceptions and attitudes on variables of organizational involvement. Therefore, a survey with three parts was administered: 1) perceived power distance; 2) desired power distance
and 3) workers’ job satisfaction. The surveys were administered to all employees of the company (except those in the highest positions). Despite the limitations related to the sample, this paper describes the reality of the organization concerning the aspects that we set out to study, and suggests a new approach to organizational culture of companies, especially regarding the engagement of employees and, consequently, the companies’ own productivity.
