Abstract
Jesus instituted the priesthood at the Last Supper, before suffering the Passion, along with a not very orthodox gesture, nor very well regarded by the Jewish people. The gesture of the washing of the feet executed by Jesus became, in a short time, a sign of humility and service leading to the Apostles and, later, those who followed them to execute it as well. The present dissertation aims to develop the theme of the washing of the feet in the life of the Church as well as its consequences lived in the present time. Therefore, on the first chapter, we will read through the passage of John 13, 1-20 and discover the richness of each gesture. On the second chapter, we will focus on the liturgical practice of the rite of the washing of the feet along History of the Church until the present day. On the third chapter we will approach the theme of service and humility of the washing of the feet, pointing towards the life of the ordained priesthood.| Date of Award | 22 Mar 2024 |
