Given the multidisciplinary nature of Contemporary Art and the variety of unstable and unconventional materials used in artworks, the conservator-restorer is often faced with challenges arising from the constant pursuit of new artistic concepts. In this sense, the artwork Radiologias (1979), by the Portuguese artist Silvestre Pestana (1949, Funchal, Madeira), belonging to the collection of the Serralves Foundation (Porto, Portugal), resulting from the artist's commitment to technological innovations, has proven to be a pertinent case study, as it incorporates a lighting system composed of several tubular halogen lamps that are no longer manufactured and sold, as well as radiographs in a progressive state of deterioration. Consequently, this dissertation aims to define and test conservation strategies that can circumvent technological obsolescence and the degradation of the radiographs. For this purpose, exhaustive and detailed documentation of the work was produced, and an alternative LED lighting system was designed to replace the original system.
