This dissertation strives to investigate the use of dreams in the cinema of Federico Fellini and Woody Allen and the previous author's influence on the latter. Through research on the use of dreams in cinema and in the cinema of these two authors, a selection of four films has been made: two of them directed by Federico Fellini (1920-1993) – 8½ (1963) and Amarcord (1973) –, and the other two directed by Woody Allen (1935-) – Stardust Memories (1980) e The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985). The film analysis of these pieces, which follows the principles advocated by authors such as Jacques Aumont and Michel Marie or David Borwell and Kristin Thompson, explores - from a creative and technical perspective - the oneirism present in these films. Notwithstanding their differences, we aim to assert the existence of similarities in the filmography of these two authors, in their style and deliberate use of dreams as a vehicle of their stories.
