Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between Leadership, Internal Communication, and employee well-being and engagement at IPG Mediabrands Portugal. The research aimed to understand the company's practices on Leadership and Internal Communication and how these are perceived by employees, with the ultimate goal of offering practical improvement suggestions to the organization. Although previous research confirmed the direct impact of Leadership and Internal Communication on employee engagement, well-being, and productivity, real and applicable solutions are often not provided. Therefore, this study offers a real example with actionable suggestions. Data for this report was collected through mixed methods research, including semi-structured interviews with the People & Internal Communication Director and two leaders, and questionnaires distributed to all Mediabrands employees. Results show that the majority of employees are satisfied with Mediabrands' Leadership and Internal Communication practices, particularly valuing initiatives like the Sharing Together Hour and "À Conversa com o Alberto," which promote inclusion, collaboration, and communication. However, findings also indicate a desire for greater transparency and more effective feedback mechanisms, especially at the level of direct supervisors. These results indicate that, although there are several successful strategies on well-being and engagement on Mediabrands, there is still space for improvement. Practical and applicable suggestions were provided to further enhance employee engagement and productivity, making this case study a valuable example for other organizations aiming to improve their Internal Communication and Leadership practices.
