Abstract

This final report, concludes the supervised teaching practice carried out in the school Escola Básica dos 2.º e 3.º Ciclos Professor Pedro D´Orey da Cunha, of Agrupamento de Escolas da Damaia, during the Master of Religious Sciences. Highlights the teaching of Unit 4, «Ecology and Values», of the Catholic Moral and Religious Education Program of the 8th grade, as a contribution to the promotion of the common good, in the context of the encyclical Laudato Si’ by Pope Francisco. The ecological issue is, in the current context, an urgent and unavoidable concern for humanity. However, it cannot be restricted to the environmental issue, as it is no longer possible to deal with environmental issues without considering the human and social dimensions of integral ecology, because, unfortunately, the human environment and the natural environment degrade together. The intention to explore the present teaching unit, and to have it as a reference unit, is not just based on the fact this is a current and urgent topic; it is necessary to emphasize that the environmental issue cannot be merely theoretical. Among several conclusions, this final report confirms the pertinence of this teaching unit taught in the context of Laudato Si' and in the sense of the common good, as it promotes the involvement of students and their sense of belonging, showing that we are all important in the promotion and construction of a fairer, more solidary and more sustainable society. In the specific case of ecology, all students are important, regardless of the social context in which they are inserted, as each one, in their own way, can make an excellent contribution to promoting integral ecology - no student should be on the sidelines of the common good.
