Abstract
The Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist is a mystery of faith, whichSaint Thomas Aquinas sought to explain in the questions 73 to 83 of the Third Part of his Summa Theologiae. Indeed, the certainty that Jesus Christ remains with men through the mystery of Transubstantiation, in the humble appearances of bread and wine, leads Saint Thomas to teach that the union with Christ in the Sacrament is a union with Christ resurrected and ascended to Heaven. Such a union with the Real Presence of Christ involves several elements that allow for the sacramental communion to be a true spiritual communion with Jesus. Faith, charity and devotion emerge as fundamental characteristics of a sacramental and spiritual communion that consists, precisely, in the intimate union of the faithful with Christ.
