Palliative care is a current topic in growing development, it reaches the needs of those affected by a serious illness; bad prognostics or by pathologic aging. It reaches as well the needs of their families and the health care professionals that come across these problems. This report presents the outlined goals, the activities, as well as the competences developed during the internship modules that took place in Centro de Saúde de Odivelas in the Integrated Continuated Care Team and in Casa de Saúde da Idanha in the Palliative Care Unit. In the first mentioned activity a situation diagnose was made, in module I, and it was clear the necessity of the team to identify the difficulties of the nurses in the palliative care giving. The gathering of data was made through a non structured interview and analyzing the content according to BARDIN (2002), so four categories were obtained: logistics; relational competences; competences/solicitations of the patient/family; and technique competences; with the respective regist units and context units. Such results allowed an interventive plan to be lined out, in module II that reached chaos management, formation on duty and through collaborating in the elaboration of a chapter of the Manual de Boas Práticas. All this process contributed for the development of competencies in the community inserted patient care giving area, namely with the terminal patient in an interning context, giving a bigger attention to the community and collaborating, specifically, in the operating an instrument of evaluation of the families, towards identifying their necessities, always aspiring to improve the support and the quality of the care given.
