Abstract

This paper is the culmination of internship carried out within the Framework of the Master’scourse of Professional Nature Nursing, in Medical Surgical Nursing specialization area of thePortuguese Catholic University Health Sciences Institute in Lisbon. This report, which I entitled“Specialist Nurse: Learning and Evolving” intends to demonstrate the continuous process ofskills development.The health care constant evolution and complexity, the nursing care must specifically, placeshealthcare professional in a constant knowledge updating in order to meet the needs ofpatients/families. The medical-surgical skills development is a very broad area. It’s not only thepatient/adult in critical condition area skills development but also the elderly in all its aspects (atrisk of life serious illness and, by one’s choice, end of life).I’ve just done two very distinct modules of training during the stage but acquired specializedinterventions skill in two very different areas: the palliative phase patient diseases and the multiorganfailure critical patient. My goal was clear: patient/family in different contexts excellencecare. Both modules provided me with practical advanced skill development. Reflection…The Palliative Care Unit offered in the patient in end of life area a range of opportunities todevelop, integrate an enhance knowledge and expertise. This also formed an essential trainingbaseline. The experiences breadth and diversification area was immense. In any relationshiptherapy communication is essential, in palliative care however is the foundation of the entireprocess.The Polyvalent Intensive Care Unit gave me a patient/family in critical phase specific knowledge development. In this context I’ve scheduled, ran and evaluated customer based on scientificmethodology direct and global critical care. In the patient/family practical and theoretical knowledge without neglecting the primary-care mobilization is taking into account.By being the basis for evolution: learning and evolving in knowledge in this paperdiversity/complexity situations reflection is a constant.
