This report reflects the work developed during the Master's Degree in Medical Surgical Nursing within the Area of Person in Critical Situation. Through a critical and reflective analysis, this report identifies and describes several practice-based experiences on different contexts of clinical practice as well as skills developed as a nurse specialist on people with critical conditions. At the same time and based on scientific evidence, a ground theme on the “Emotional Intelligence of Critical Care Nurses” was developed. Through the dissemination of this literature review, it is intended that nurses who work in critical care services develop emotional intelligence skills, contributing to the promotion of specialized nursing care to the critical care patient and their families. This long journey begins before the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak was declared as a global pandemic, extending throughout the adaptation period that the healthcare units went through facing this new reality. The internships that contributed to my development as a future specialist nurse were carried out in the context of a general emergency service as well as intensive and intermediate care units. Despite all the instability that arises in healthcare units due to the constant need for adaptation and reorganization, it was possible to share the obtained results with scientific research conducted within the internships, thus contributing to an improvement of specialized nursing care.
