The present study entitled “Music Education: study and self-regulation strategies in violin learning”, focus on early students problem in learning the instrument since they do not have instrument basic knowledge and strategies to apply in everyday study. The main goal of this investigation is to find out if violin learning improves when teacher applies training techniques which promote self-regulation study and instrument learning inside and outside classroom. Thus, a case study was promoted using a qualitive approach focusing on interpretation and a research-action (R-A) strategy for a six month period from January until July 2014. The representative sample used in this study were seven students from Basic Music Course during 2013/2014 school year, the second degree of Centro de Cultura Musical (CCM) in Vila Nova de Famalicão e Caldas da Sáude. The techniques and instruments used in order to collect and produce data were direct and participant observation, question surveys, everyday notes and violin study diaries as well as individual student‟s audio data and the researcher field notes. The data analysis and interpretation techniques used in this study were: the statistical analysis of student‟s surveys and the content analysis of all the collected data. The present study results show that teacher planning and organization strategies and students self-assessment proof, inside and outside classroom, surely improve the quality of violin learning.
