Abstract

This study fits within the context of Vocational Education Model emerged in Portugal in 1989, as the result of a social call, a call for a more democratic schooling and training, in the form of an innovative model to the educational , administrative and financial level. More recently, in 2006, this model was transported to public secondary schools and vocational education becomes part of their offer. In this context, we aim to carry out a comparative study of the logical organization and operation of vocational education in public secondary schools and in vocational schools. From the preparation / action, teaching - learning, dynamic work context and experiences, the aim is to cross the two realities, analyze the processes of operation and contribute to improve the practice in the field. We have proceeded to document analysis, interviews and questionnaires in order to look at the two realities and contribute to improve the practice. From the analysis of the responses and verification of hypotheses, we conclude that the importation of the vocational education model for secondary schools is being made without specific training and support from those who have already been doing it for over two decades, with validated results. It seems obvious the need to create devices for monitoring and evaluating the process as a means to improve practices and maintain the trust of the society in the virtuous model of vocational education.
