Abstract

Given the progressive aging society and increased longevity issues related to aging have gained greater interest and greater concern. Consequently emerged social policy of aging, you want the elderly to be active, participating in social, economic, cultural, spiritual and civic. In this sense, this research aims to gauge if the elderly in the municipality of Viseu have access to active aging and do not have the reasons that the condition, as well as check if there are gender disparities. And secondly verify that both sexes have the same opportunities in this area or is there room for social discrimination. For this, we conducted a cross-sectional, descriptive, correlational and not experimental, applying a quantitative methodology. The sample was of non-probabilistic by convenience consisted of 104 elderly in the municipality of Viseu. The measuring instrument used was a questionnaire constructed for this purpose. Overall this study we can conclude that active aging is well implemented in the municipality of Viseu, since the elderly are considered assets and quality of life, yet enjoy autonomy and physical dedicated to leisure activities and it fits the definition active aging. The health and economic issues were the main constraints mentioned by the elderly. On the issue of gender, women are shown to be more active, but there is a significant disparity, as well as do not occur discriminating differences in access to active aging.
