The theme addressed in this dissertation aims at the historical-artistic study of the mirror and its respective frame in the context of the sacristy, with special focus on the intervention of conservation and restoration of the pair of mirrors of the sacristy belonging to the church of Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto. The evolution of sacristies is accompanied by the use of objects with greater artistic value, with the mirror frame being a widely used piece. In this context, the function of the mirror evolves, even becoming important so that priests can properly prepare for the liturgy. The 18th century in Portugal is distinguished by three different stylistic movements, the Joanine Baroque, predominant in the first half of the century during the reign of D. João V (1706-1750), which was followed by Rococo, until the last decade of the reign of D. José I (1750-1777), finally occurring the Neoclassical, already in the reign of D. Maria I (1777-1816). In the 18th century in Portugal, the mirror is found in decorative environments with its utilitarian function superimposed on that of apparatus. However, with the attribution of the status of a piece of furniture to the tremó and its arrival in Portugal in the third quarter of the century, the mirror became an indispensable piece of furniture in Portuguese decorative environments. As for the intervention process on the pair of mirrors at Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Porto. In a first phase, a survey of the state of conservation of the frames, material and technical description of the frames and respective pathologies survey was carried out. In addition to surveying pathologies, samples were collected, two from each frame, to carry out examinations and analyses, SEM-EDS, FTIR and stratigraphy. With the examinations and analyses, it is possible to conclude the materials used and their composition, as well as the composition of the layers of the frame itself. A second phase, the conservation and restoration of this set (hereinafter referred to as frame 1 and frame 2), had as its main objective that of the frames and the volumetric reintegration with 3D printing of frame 2. Both frames will have been intervened in the workshops at the School of Arts of the Catholic University of Porto. The entire process was based on the principles of minimal intervention, the use of materials that are compatible and identical to the originals. This process is described and documented during the different stages of treatment, as well as the choice of materials and techniques for the intervention.
