The present study aims to study the importance of the role that spirituality and religiosity has on Life Quality in Elderly. The study participants were seniors aged between 60 to 84 years. The sample consisted of 100 subjects of both sexs, whose/which participation was voluntary. One of the exclusion criteria was the presence of physical illness associated with and/or diagnosed psychopathology. The study is descriptive, inferential and of correlation. Data collection was conducted through a demographic questionnaire, the WHOQOL - Bref of Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), of Religious and Spiritual Coping scale (RCOPE adapted to portuguese population of Portugal) and Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). The results obtained show that there is no relation between Life Quality and positive strategies of religious and spiritual coping. It was verified that, there are no statistical significant differences in the use of positive strategies of religious and spiritual coping by gender, being the women who uses more these strategies. It was also noted, that there are no statistically significant differences in the use of positive strategies of religious and spiritual coping in relation to cognitive deterioration. Finally it was observed that participants, regardless of marital status, use positive strategies of religious and spiritual coping. The data of this study reveal the importance of using positive strategies of religious and spiritual coping, as a protective factor for physical and psychological situations of life, in old age.
