Russia's aggression against Ukraine has meant the return of traditional warfare to the European continent. European security is in a critical phase of re-evaluating its postures. China, by seeking to expand its international influence and project its power, and by the Sino-Russian rapprochement with the signing of the No Limits Partnership, is increasingly perceived by the European Union and NATO as a rival actor that challenges and threatens the interests, security and values of Europe and the Euro-Atlantic area. Europe's strategic autonomy has been weakened by years of manipulation of relations of economic interdependence by actors such as China and Russia to their advantage. This situation has led to the loss of control of strategic sectors that are critical to Europe's security and its political and economic autonomy. Ports are one of these strategic sectors. Thanks to their importance as logistics centers, important nodes in international supply lines, industrial and technological hubs and as critical infrastructures for mobilizing personnel and transporting military equipment, the loss of control of numerous terminals in strategic European ports to China constitutes a threat to Europe's security. Throughout this work, we intend to demonstrate the context, the reasons and the scale of the threat posed by Chinese control of the Ports, and the corrective actions that can be taken so that the Ports, as a strategic sector, are not a debilitating element, but rather an element that enhances European security and European autonomy.
