Abstract

I have been a physiotherapist for 15 years, from the begging of my career I have been working with elderly patients, therefore I have continuously felt the finiteness of life from a professional and personal point of view. Rehabilitation is not exclusive to rehabilitate illnesses, it also aims to reconcile people with their own body, to allow people to assume their new conditions, from the physical and social aspects and with this they can acquire new experiences that set their functionality in motion in an integral way. With the knowledge I acquired in this master's degree, the training I have completed and the vision of humanity from corporeality and corporeity, I develop an immense need to search for the union between physiotherapy in mental health and palliative care. Understanding that people who are in a phase of life, where finitude is near and that it is necessary to find a meaning to continue, I found necessary and interesting to explore this area from the perspective of movement. Doing this internship in Colombia allowed me to deeply feel the way in which this country has grown in the area of palliative care, where through its observatory the doors are open to different specialties and visions with the sole objective of improving services, coverage and quality of life for Colombians. Thanks to this experience I have acquired key tools for the accompaniment of patients in palliative care, their caregivers and families from the point of view of a mental health physiotherapist. Recognizing movements, understanding them and helping to integrate them allowed a body-mind-illness reconciliation. Palliative care and mental health physiotherapy together allowed me to look at the meaning of life and death from a different perspective.
