Estratégias para a igualdade e inclusão no ensino superior
: o caso das pessoas com deficiência

Student thesis: Master's Thesis

Abstract

The present thesis corresponds to a report of an investigation leading to the obtaining of a master’s degree in educational sciences. The study in question addresses the issue of integrating students with disabilities, or special educational needs, into the education system. A phenomenon widely studied in Primary and Secondary Education, however, there is little empirical evidence that allows us to understand this manifestation in Higher Education. From a theoretical point of view, the study falls within Social Pedagogy, recognized as a science of education that allows framing the plurality of socio-educational experiences developed in the community and throughout life. From an empirical point of view, we resorted to documentary research and questioning of stakeholders, carried out through semi-structured interviews with personalities with relevant thoughts on this issue of educational policy. Essentially, the data collected and analysed allows us to support the conviction that students with disabilities, or special educational needs, in Higher Education, contrary to the reality of Basic and Secondary Education, do not yet have legislative and pedagogical support, which helps to overcome barriers and overcome challenges, suggesting the need to invest in inclusive education policies and measures specifically designed for this education sector.
