Estudo clínico da eficácia da pasta de polimento dessensibilizante com arginina (Colgate GmbH) no alívio da hipersensibilidade dentária em pacientes com doença periodontal

Abstract

Introduction: The tooth hypersensitivity is characterized by an acute pain arising from exposed dentin tubules in response to a thermal stimulus, tactile, osmotic or chemical that cannot be described as any dental defect or pathology. [1-3] Te tooth hypersensitivity is common in patients with periodontal disease and its exacerbation is frequent after the hygienic fase of periodontal treatment. Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the polishing paste with arginine (Colgate GmbH) in dentin hypersensitivity relief in comparison with the Proclinic® polishing paste. Methods: In the population of patients who perform periodontal treatment at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, two groups were randomly selected, one for control and another experimental, each containing 25 subjects. They had to have at least two teeth that presented hypersensitivity when tested for sensitivity through the air blast. Three-phase measurement sensitivity were carried out: one before the scaling, another scaling immediately after (before placing the polishing pastes) and the last after one week. Results: The individuals which belonged to the experimental group (Colgate GmbH paste) showed statistically significant reductions on dental hypersensitive (p<0,001) when compared to the subjects which belong to the control group (Proclinic® paste), in response to the air blast (52%). Conclusions: The results obtained in this study demonstrated that after a single application of Colgate GmbH toothpaste followed by a one week follow up, there is a reduction in tooth hypersensitivity in the studied population.
