Estudo clínico sobre o impacto psico-funcional e espiritual no estatuto de sobrevivente oncológico

Abstract

The main objective of this research is to analyze the atmosphere that is manifested after the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, at a stage that traditionally refers to the user as a survivor of cancer disease. The study focuses on the psychopathological variables, functional and spiritual energy, making the association with the socio-demographic data and the individual characteristics of diagnosis and treatment of each participant searching for the possibility of the study variables contribute or predict efficiently the status of the cancer survivor. The sample contains a group of 42 individuals, 29 women and 13 men over the age of 18 years, to whom was diagnosed a cancer, and at the time of data collection were considered survivors, "free of the disease," a period that was conventionally at least 5 years after diagnosis, without recurrence. The sample was collected through the follow-up and based on the clinical process of users in the Local Unit of Health in Alto Minho, EPE, (ULSAM, EPE) and the Hospital of Braga, EPE. For the data collection mentioned above we have used a socio-demographic questionnaire, “the Brief Symptom Inventory” (BSI), a questionnaire of Health State (MOS SF-36) and a scale for the assessment of spirituality in health contexts (EE). The results prove the existence of two models with predictive capability of the status of a cancer survivor, expressed by the dimensions paranoid ideation and emotional performance, which explain 26.5 % of survival. Accordingly to the above information we can conclude that this study demonstrated the presence of sequels in the psychological level and at the functional level after five or more years of the diagnosis of the disease. Therefore, there is the need to interfere at this level for the promotion of health and well-being of the patient, clearly through a multidisciplinary work.
