The obesity in children's is public health problem, led to the classification of WHO like "plague of the century XXI".As if that was not enough it always appears associated to the increase of mortality or morbidity. This study look for understand in which measures children with childhood obesity differ from children without obesity in terms of depressive and anxious symptoms. The study design is cross-cutting and comparative. The sample comprised 85 children, aged between eight and twelve, which were divided into: (1) obese children (n = 35), users of outpatient visits for childhood obesity at Hospital Santa Maria Maior EPE, (2) and non-obese (n = 50) from Primeiro Ciclo de Carreiras (St. Miguel) and Primeiro de Maio- The instruments used are a portuguese adaptation of the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and the Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale-Revised (CMAS-R). The results show that there are no differences between obese and nonobese relation to depressive symptoms. In terms of anxiety symptoms, the non-obese children have higher levels of anxiety when compared to obese. With regard to place of residence, parental education, physical activity and food The sample comprised there are differences between the group of obese and non-obese.
