Abstract

The conservation of contemporary art implies an approach someway distinct of the one used in ancient art. In addition to the different materials used, questions as the attitude and intention of the artist concerning the preservation of his work, raise issues that continue to create controversy regarding intervention methodologies. Regardless, we can still find common pathologies on paintings of both eras. We intent to describe, the restoration that took place, in a large format contemporary painting, from the Spanish artist Uiso Alemany During the process, we were able to determine, that the main degradation present in the painting, was directly related to the acid hydrolysis of the textile canvas, a situation that could also occur on an old paint. In this sense a study was done about several acidity treatment systems, through the creation of alkaline reserves. Having in mind that it is the type of painting, that determines the most appropriate system, we concluded, in this particular case, that a non aqueous system would be the most indicated.
