The main goal of this study is to analyze the implementation of Circular Economy in Portugal, as an alternative sustainability model in the current economic scenario, breaking the linear growth pattern that is based on extraction-transformation-use-disposal and that threatens the limits of our Planet. Circular Economy emerges as the alternative paradigm that includes the need to apply innovation and development strategies at the level of product design, manufacturing processes, business models and consumption in order to maximize the use of natural resources and minimize the production of waste. In order to answer the research question, case studies were elaborated that focused on companies and entities, from different sectors of activity, which base their action and business models on the principles of Sustainable development. In particular, they are pioneers in the transition to the new model, developing and promoting by-products that maximize the value of resources. Those companies have shown a strong awareness of the topic and view Circular Economy as an opportunity for the future and for putting into practice new ways of managing and creating value for the organization. However, it also became clear that this will be a slow, phased process that will require the work and cooperation of all the economic agents involved in the product life cycle.
