Consumption and alcohol-related problems, vary widely in the world (who, 2011). In the African region, several countries report an increase and changes in the patterns of consumption of alcohol (who, 2007). Despite the warnings of the danger of alcohol consumption by pregnant women, many women continue to consume it during pregnancy (Toutain, 2010). Alcohol consumption during pregnancy has been associated with problematic situations for pregnancy and child development (subtle or striking) both in the prenatal period as lifelong (e.g. Popova, Lange, Burd & Rehm, 2012). In Mozambique, there are no data on the consumption of alcohol during pregnancy. In this sense, was conducted an exploratory study whose overall objective was to analyse the consumption of alcohol and the psychological experience of pregnancy in pregnant women (adults and adolescents) who attend the general hospitals of Maputo city-José Macamo and Mavalane and Furthermore, analyze the correlation between alcohol consumption and the psychological experience of pregnancy in pregnant women. For the identification of consumption we used the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test instrument-AUDIT (Babor, Higgins-Biddle, Saunders & Monteiro, 2001) and the evaluation of the psychological experience of pregnancy was performed using the scale of Attitudes about pregnancy and motherhood to Mozambique EAGM-M (Xavier & Canda, 2013). 252 pregnant women participated in the study and found that (12.8%) were consuming alcohol. On the correlation between alcohol consumption and the psychological experience of pregnancy was not identified correlation between variables. With regard to pregnant teenagers, identified a sample of pregnant adolescents (n = 7) and consumption were not identified in this subgroup. Considering the results of this study becomes underline the importance of undertaking studies with this specific population in order to prevent problematic situations in the short and long term.
