The COVID-19 pandemic has had significant implications both locally and globally, resulting in unprecedented restrictions and changes in daily life. This exploratory study aimed to investigate the impact of a year of confinement on cognitive function, namely on memory and attention processes and the emotional regulation. 39 healthy university students with ages between 18 and 44 years old participated. Data collection was carried out through an online platform in a period before the beginning of the pandemic and after confinement. The results of this study indicated, in general, a worst performance in all domains (memory, attention and emotional regulation). The age did not constitute an indicator of worst performance in cognitive and emotional level. Surprisingly, men presented more difficulties in regulating emotions during this period just like the COVID-19 infected group. The conclusions go towards a decrease in mental health. This study did alert for the necessity to implement preventable and interventional programs for future similar occasions on a mental health level.
