Abstract

In light of the urgency of the transition to sustainable energy, the renewable energy sector is at the forefront of industrial change and industrial transformation. This thesis investigates the critical role of dynamic capabilities in managing the inherent uncertainties within this sector. Dynamic capabilities, i.e. the organizational processes that enable it to adapt to and exploit external change, are examined to understand how they contribute to strategic resilience. Employing Mayring's qualitative content analysis, this study analyzes interviews with renewable energy experts. The analysis integrates inductive and deductive reasoning to crystallize the deployment of dynamic capabilities in response to uncertainties related to policy, technology, and market fluctuations. Based on the findings of the analysis dynamic capabilities are pivotal for renewable energy firms to sense shifts in the energy landscape, seize emerging opportunities, and transform their operations in line with a changing environment. However, implementation in practice is not well-researched and a specific systematic approach is often lacking. The research identifies strategic imperatives for enhancing dynamic capabilities, including advanced forecasting, investment in innovation, and fostering an adaptable organizational culture.
